Fire Extinguisher Services
Annual service. Every extinguisher in a California business needs service once a year under Title 19. We check the pressure, weight, hose, nozzle, pin, and seal, make sure the unit is mounted and reachable, and attach a new tag.
Recharge and maintenance. We recharge extinguishers that have been used or have lost pressure. Rechargeable dry chemical units are opened and rebuilt at six years and pressure tested at twelve. CO2 cylinders are pressure tested every five years.
Sales and installation. We supply and mount new extinguishers and cabinets. A large warehouse needs units spaced so that no point on the floor is more than 75 feet of travel from one, which often means adding units on columns in the middle of the building and not only at the doors.
Dairies, Packing Houses, and Cold Storage
Agricultural sites around Visalia have conditions that shorten the life of an extinguisher. Units in milking barns and wash-down rooms rust from the bottom up. Units in cold storage need to be rated for the temperature of the room, since a standard water-based or wet chemical unit will freeze. Extinguishers on forklifts, loaders, and feed trucks take constant vibration, which compacts the powder and loosens the bracket. We check for these conditions at each visit and replace units and brackets that are no longer sound.
Other Equipment We Service

- Backflow preventers: annual testing, with reports filed with California Water Service, the water provider for Visalia.
Common Questions
How often do fire extinguishers need to be serviced?
Once a year by a service company. In between, someone on your staff should look at each unit monthly to confirm it is in place, the gauge is in the green, and nothing is blocking it.
What does the tag mean?
The tag shows the month and year of the last service and the company that did the work. A fire inspector reads the tag first. If the punched date is more than a year old, the unit is out of compliance even if it works.
Do you take the extinguishers away?
Usually not. Annual inspections are done where the unit hangs. Extinguishers that need a recharge, six-year maintenance, or a hydrostatic test are serviced and returned.
What size and type do I need?
Most offices and stores use 5 or 10 pound ABC dry chemical units. Shops, warehouses, and fuel areas usually need 10 or 20 pound units. Commercial kitchens need a Class K extinguisher in addition to the hood system. If you are opening a new location, we can walk the space and mark where units go before your final inspection.
Can an old extinguisher be recharged?
Most metal-valve extinguishers can. Units with plastic valve assemblies are disposable and cannot be serviced. Any model the manufacturer no longer supports with parts has to be replaced as well.
